Dopo il rilascio di “1999 Super Deluxe” dello scorso novembre, ecco arrivare la notizia riguardante il prossimo box commemorativo dedicato a Prince. Si tratta di “Sign O’ The Times Super Deluxe Edition”, annunciato come qualcosa di semplicemente straordinario ed impegnativo. Parliamo di due colossali cofanetti composti da ben 8CD o 13LP, di edizioni ridotte da 3CD o 4LP e versioni normali da 2CD o 2LP, quest’ultima prevista in vinile color pesca e nero. Data di pubblicazione fissata, ma non confermata, per il 18 settembre 2020.

Nel lungo elenco di titoli troveremo la versione rimasterizzata dell’album, i remixes le b-sides dei singoli e gli inediti registrati nei mesi precedenti alla pubblicazione dell’album, avvenuta nel marzo del 1987. A completare il tutto il live del concerto di Utrecht nel giugno del 1987 ed il video del celebre show di fine anno 1987, registrato a Paisley Park e che ha visto come ospite d’eccezione Miles Davis.

L’intera raccolta sarà una ricca testimonianza di quello che è stato uno dei periodi creativi più geniali di Prince. “Sign O’ The Times” è il risultato finale di tre precedenti progetti: “Dream Factory”, abbandonato definitivamente nel settembre 1986 dopo lo scioglimento dei The Revolution, “Camille”, ispirato dallo pseudonimo spesso usato da Prince e “Crystal Ball” album triplo che la Warner Bros non approvò perché troppo imponente e ritenuto difficile da apprezzare.
